Can you tell I was bored?
It is actually impressive how apt Chase and Status’s lyrics are in the song ‘time’
I’m not being dark or anything simply thinking about the lyrics. I think they describe quite nicely how a lot of people think.
Reading into them more exactly ‘then cut me loose’ is the line which comes across strongest. The one line which is sung like the rest but actually is the one many wish for most.
Sometimes I wonder how nice it would be not to care. To quite literally not give a fuck.
I am pretty sure it is not something I will get anytime soon. People can tell me over and over to let go. That I can’t actually do anything, that it is out of my control. But you know what, these people evidently are not trying hard enough! What’s more, if anyone knew how much I cared maybe they’d understand that I would NEVER forgive myself if I didn’t at least try.
So to the doubters, those that would have let go, you really are talking crap. You evidently don’t care enough or maybe you just haven’t been in the same position.
To those that agree, I salute you. I wish you all the best on achieving what it is you want.
And to those in my life that are the ones that people say I should let go of, rest assured I will be there. Until you say otherwise I will be there to do whatever it is that can make things that bit better. To help you when you need it most. To listen when you need someone to hear. Last but not least, I will act when I think it is justified and I will be damned if I don’t at least try.
I don’t ask anything in return. People helped me when I needed it most. I will do the same for you. No matter what.
As you guys probably know I bought a Volvo S40 in January.
Having to commute to Kent I needed something safer and more economical to get me to work.
At first I didn’t really even consider the S40.
I wanted an Audi A4 or BMW 320 i/d .
Due to financial restraints I really couldn’t buy the Audi or BMW as they just would have been too old.
My dad suggested the Volvo.
Turns out they are great cars. The just make it into the premium segment and as such are fantastically built, good quality, have nice features and then there is the safety factor.
But you probably know all that. So what are the hidden perks?
1. People expect Volvos to be slow. The S40 2.0 D is not slow. Not even vaguely. In 6 speed manual guise if you work the engine nicely it treats you with some great acceleration punctuated by an incredibly rapid mid-range.
This catches people out and can put a smile on your face. Also IMO it adds to safety. On certain occasions it is safer to accelerate out of a problem than to brake. Such situations can arise when being tailgated whilst something happens in the lane next to you. Or if you know what you are doing in other situations.
2. A great perk I’ve noticed is how in Kent people assume you are an undercover cop. An incredibly nice perk it had led to people moving out of the way and keeping extra distance. All adds to safer driving and again puts a smile on your face.
3. My Volvo is surpassingly quiet. Tyre noise and engine roar is minimal at 70mph making for a very relaxed drive.
4. Safety features work. Only a month after I got the car an idiot that was not paying attention hit me at around 40MPH whilst I was stationary in traffic on the motorway. Safety features kicked in and I was thankfully unhurt. Volvo has a good safety record for a reason it appears.
5. Comfiest seats ever. Defiantly the comfiest most supportive seats I have ever sat in in a car. Very impressive and great for long drives. Lumbar support as standard is a definite bonus.
6. Odd image. I am 21 and I drive a Volvo, it gets some strange reactions but normally very positive. Everyone says the same thing. It makes me look ‘professional’ without the ridiculous rep car image. That in my opinion is the best image you can have!
My Birthday, a success. Also a partial review of Beach Blanket Babylon
In the past, my birthdays have been very much hit or miss.
There have been ones which were talked about (positively) for years after the event or those that were catastrophic failures (last year being one of them).
My 16th was great and definitely was the one that stick most in the memory. Copious amounts of alcohol mixed with the right crowd provided a fantastic evening for my guests and myself. My 18th although partially cringeworthy was pretty damn good as well.
Then there were years like my 21st where I’d rather forget the lack of any initiative on my part which led to me sitting in a pub. The people I was with we’re my friends but it just wasn’t how I wanted it to be.
This year however, this year was perfect.
Some of my closest friends joined me in the evening (after a great morning and afternoon with my family) to have dinner at Beach Blanket Babylon in Notting Hill and then to enjoy some cocktails after,
Even though two people couldn’t turn up, it was a resounding success.
The food was incredible and I don’t say that lightly. For cost to quality, it was exemplary. All the food was incredibly good and hugely tasty with good sized portions. The wine list was good even if badly listed… I had to call upon my knowledge of wines to work out which variety some wines were - thankfully we ended up with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and a deep Pinot Noir - to accompany our fish based starters and red meat mains…
I will also say that BBB has some of the best looking waitresses I have ever seen at a restaurant. Definitely added a certain something to the evening.
The post dinner cocktails were also, as expected, perfect.
I have been to BBB a few times and it did not disappoint in the past and hasn’t this time either.
We were enjoying such delights as the signature Purple Blanket and my favourite cocktail - the Porn Star. Despite the name this thick sweet fruity passion fruit cocktail is one of my favourites. Coupled with the double shot of champagne that it is served with it is one of the best drinks out there.
So yes, it was one hell of a night. An innumerable amount of cocktails and a few bottles of wine and some Champagne made the night one of the best.
Thank you to those that came and I have an odd feeling we will be frequenting BBB for dinner again this summer and shall definitely continue to go there for drinks.
